Youthful Offender Program
This program provides an alternative to incarceration for youth
between the ages of 16-21 who have committed misdemeanor offenses.
The
youth is given a sentence of community service hours and is sent
to our office for interview and placement. We ascertain the
interests of the youth and assign them to a non-profit agency
for the amount of hours established by the court. The benefits
of community
service have long been recognized as being effective in preventing
recidivism because it gives the youth a dignified way to learn
from their mistake while providing a much needed worthwhile service
to the community they wronged. Additionally, long lasting mentoring
relationships are developed and many of our youth stay on as
volunteers long after their community service obligation has been
satisfied.
Please call the Hands On! office at 845-229-4684 with
any questions or concerns.
